Comm Alumnus Jalen Ryant Publishes Book

At SC State Jalen Ryant beat his drum while a member of the famed Marching 101. Now, in his newly published book, "Chops for Life- Who is Jesus?," Jalen beats his drum for the great man above, Jesus Christ.

Jalen, a 2017 communications graduate living in his native Charlotte, N.C., announced recently on LinkedIn the release of his first book.

He has the book for sale on Amazon ($7.99 paperback and $2.99 for the Kindle version).

"Chops For Life' is a question and answer based book that points back to the person of Jesus, who he is and why he's important," Jalen writes on his Amazon site. "I’m a drummer and the reason why I titled the book 'Chops For Life' is because in the music world, the slang chops is another way of saying skill or ability. It can also be used as slang for talking to someone. Having a deep conversation with them. Like if someone said, 'Let’s chop it up later.'"

He continues:  "So the purpose of my approach is to have a conversation with the reader while delving into those deep questions we hear occasionally but never really talk about. Like what's faith? What's love? Who is God? So I hope that after reading this, you will get some answers to these questions and gain a personal understanding of the person of Jesus."

Jalen is a teacher's assistant at KIPP Change Academy in Charlotte and a drum teacher at Charlotte Music School. He attends Empowered Love Ministries International in Concord N.C.

Contacts are welcome. Jalen's email is jalenryant@yahoo.com and his phone number is (704) 877-3903. Instagram is @jalenryant and the book Instagram page is @chopsforlifebook.
